    Purple Mussel Baklava Recipe: A Colourful and Delicious Dessert Experience

    Purple mussel baklava is a modern and colourful interpretation of the traditional Turkish dessert baklava. This special dessert is prepared in the shape of the mussel it is named after and gets its purple colour from natural ingredients. In addition to being visually appealing, it also leaves an unforgettable mark on the palate with its flavour.

    Purple Mussel Baklava Ingredients

    500 grams of baklava phyllo
    200 grams of butter
    1 water glass hazelnut (finely ground)
    1 water glass walnut (finely ground)
    1 tea glass pistachio (optional)
    2 tablespoons purple mashed potato (for natural colouring)
    3 cups sugar
    2,5 cups of water
    Juice of half a lemon

    Making Purple Mussel Baklava

    Sherbet Preparation:

    Add water and sugar into a saucepan, boil over medium heat while stirring.
    When it starts to boil, add lemon juice and boil for 5 more minutes.
    Remove the syrup from the stove and let it cool down.

    Baklava Preparation:

    Lay the baklava phyllo sheets on the counter and cut 10×10 cm squares.
    Melt the butter and spread it on the phyllo pastry with a brush.
    Add finely ground hazelnut and walnut mixture in the centre of the phyllo.
    Fold the phyllo in half to form a triangle and close the edges by pressing them tightly.
    Spread purple mashed potato on the prepared triangles.
    Place the baklava on a greased baking tray and brush with butter again.
    Baking:

    Bake in a preheated 180 degree oven until golden (about 30-35 minutes).

    Sherbet:

    Pour the cold sherbet over the baked baklava.
    Let the baklavas rest for at least 2 hours to absorb the syrup well.

    Presentation:

    Serve by sprinkling pistachios on it.

    Tips About Purple Mussel Baklava Recipe

    To achieve the purple colour naturally, you can use purple mashed potatoes. Alternatively, you can also use beetroot juice, red fruits such as blackberries or food colouring.
    Do not hesitate to use plenty of butter to make your baklava crispy.
    It is important for the consistency that the syrup is cold and the baklava is hot.
